Manual & Safety

Before commencing operation of your Optimover, we recommend reviewing the user manual in full.  Available here: Optimover User Manual

Critical safety information.

  • Only persons who have read and understood the Operations Manual and are familiar with the safe use of this device may operate it.
  • Never allow children or untrained persons to operate the Optimover.
  • Never operate Optimover, or allow others to operate it, while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • If the caravan, boat or trailer does not have its own functional handbrake, the use of Optimover is not recommended on inclines.
  • Optimover must not be used as a parking brake. Although the unit will lock when powered off, the trailer’s braking system must be considered the primary braking method.
  • Do not operate Optimover with the support shaft wound up. Operate the unit in the fully wound down position to prevent damage to the support shaft and drive components.
  • Remove Optimover from power supply after use. Optimover operates via open radio control – removing power prevents accidental or unintended operation.

For all Optimovers purchased after April 2024, the Optimover comes with a 3-Year Parts Warranty commencing from date of purchase.

Please retain a copy of your tax receipt to claim your warranty, particularly if you purchased through one of our retailers.   The warranty extends to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable.

Note, for purchases made prior to April 2024, Optitec offered a 2-Year warranty on the Optimover Motor and a 1-Year warranty on other Optimover parts and accessories.

Optitec warranties are in addition to the Consumer Guarantee under Australian Consumer Law.

MOUNTING YOUR OPTIMOVER

TIME TO SECURE YOUR OPTIMOVER TO THE DRAWBAR

View the video to watch us mount the Optimover to the drawbar.

Note our top tips:

  • When positioning your Optimover to the bracket, face the vertical key on the outer pole toward the clamp opening and align the horizonal key to the lower keyhole on the bracket.
  • Once the Optimover is in position, insert and wind the lower bracket handle lightly and face it down to get out of the way of your upper handle
  • Insert and wind the upper handle until it is firmly secure and then finish winding the lower handle until it is firmly secure
  • Once the Optimover is secure in the clamp, wind the Optimover down to it’s lowest position – ensuring the inner pole vertical key locks to the outer pole.

POWERING YOUR OPTIMOVER

LET’S POWER UP YOUR OPTIMOVER

Using the connector leads supplied, the Optimover needs to be connected to 12V power in order to operate – it does not have an internal battery.

Upon successful connection to power you will hear a “beep” from the Optimover within 2-3 seconds. Once you hear this beep, hold down the “on” button on your Optimover remote control until you hear a second beep. You are now ready to commence operating your Optimover!

There are three options to powering your Optimover:

1. Connect to your caravan batteries via an Anderson Plug.
Note: not all vans are wired for power to be drawn out.  If you connect to your Anderson Plug and do not hear a “beep” from the Optimover then it is not receiveing power.

2. Connect directly to a 12V Battery.  Using Alligator Clips, you can connect to an independent battery, we recommend at least 80AH.

3. Connect to a 12V jump starter / portable battery pack. Though there are many compatable options, the team at Optitec use and recommend the Repco 1700A AGM Sealed Battery Pack

Your Optimover requires a strong 12V power source to operate to it’s full potential.

If you are not hearing a beep when connecting to power OR you notice low performance output, we recommend testing your Optimover on an alternate power source to verify if there is a problem in the power source or with the mover.

The easiest way to test your Optimover is using your car battery – connect using the 2m Alligator Clips suplied and with your car turned on. The Optimover does not need to be attached to your drawbar for this test. If the Optimover is successfully turning on and responding to all controls in this scenario, it’s likely you need to make amendments to your power set up when attaching Optimover to your drawbar.

Some common problems and solutions are as follows:

  • If connecting to your caravan’s Anderson Plug and not hearing an initial beep it is likely that your caravan is not set up to draw power out.  An electrician can amend the connection to set it up for two-way power or you can use an alternative battery or jump starter pack.

  • If using a battery pack or jump starter and not hearing an initial beep or noticing inconsistent performance, it’s likely your battery pack is not sustaining the power voltage the Optimover requires.  We recommend using an alternative battery or jump starter pack.
  • If using your own connector lead longer than 2m you notice inconsistent performance, it’s likely you are experiencing voltage drop. We recommend trying a thicker cable, minimum 6B&S.

USAGE TIPS & TRICKS

Your Remote Control uses an A23 Battery.  We’re sorry this is not provided with online orders but is readily available at local supermarkets and hardware stores.

After connecting the Optimover to power, hold down the on button for 2 to 3 seconds until you hear a second beep from the machine.

The Remote Control may drain your A23 Battery if the off button is not pressed after use.  You can remove the battery from the remote control if not using regularly.

The Optimover will effectively push trailers under 2700kg up moderate concrete inclines (up to 6 degrees or 10%).  When using the Optimover on inclines;

  • The Optimover should be at the lower end of the incline pushing the trailer.  This places the weight of the van over the Optimover for stability and control.
  • Do not operate on inclines with the Optimover at the higher end of the incline. This moves weight away from the mover and will make it challenging for the wheel to retain traction.
  • If the combination of your van weight and incline level is too much for the Optimover, the overvoltage mechanism will occur where the machine will beep and turn itself off.   It is safe to restart the Optimover and rest assured no damage is incurred.
  • If you are observing the wheel of your Optimover spin, the Optimover has not reached it’s power capacity but needs more downforce or weight to be applied over the Optimover to aid stronger traction.
  • Lips and gutters are mostly managable for the Optimover, but it may need some assistance. For example, you can moderate the step change in height by adding plywood spaces or increase downforce over the drawbar to increase downforce and support traction.

The Optimover needs a firm surface for effective traction and operation.  Many grass and gravel surfaces do have sufficient firmness, but not all.

If you are observing the Optimover spin whist operating on grass or gravel, here are some tips to assist the mover;

  • Get more weight on the drawbar.  Traction is supported by downforce and additional weight will aid the machine in finding traction on softer surfaces.
  • Use rubber matting, plywood boards or other firm materials under the Optimover.  The bigger the mat or board the bettter as smaller boards may not stay in position when operating the wheel.
